Philusa Corporation is primarily engaged in the business of distribution with the objective of providing the Philippine market with a wide range of quality but affordable products.
History and Establishment
Philusa Corporation was established with the purpose of providing the Philippine market with high quality but affordable pharmaceutical and consumer products. It is a wholly-owned affiliate company of the Mercury Group of Companies, Inc. (MGCI).
1967
Mercury Drug Corporation established its field sales department to venture into wholesale business operations. Over the years, this field sales department grew to become a separate company and was given the name, PHILUSA DRUG DISTRIBUTORS, INC.
1969
The first branch of Philusa was opened in Cebu City on August 19, 1969.
1972
Davao and Iloilo branches were established on February 16 and November 4, 1972, respectively.
1975
Cagayan de Oro branch was opened on February 18, 1975.
1976
The Luzon branches were opened for business, namely: La Union on February 16, 1976; Naga on March 8, 1976; San Pablo on March 25, 1976; Cauayan on March 25, 1976; and Pampanga on November 6, 1976.
1977
Business re-direction was started in this year giving focus to company-owned branded products, the first of which was the Babyflo feeding bottle. Subsequently, Philusa dropped the product lines from third party pharmaceutical suppliers. There was a change in business name from Philusa Drug Distributors, Inc. to PHILUSA DISTRIBUTORS, INC. With this development, came the creation of two company-owned brands, namely: Mediplast and Cleene, thus, reinforcing the brand management of Philusa.
1985
This year saw the merger of Philusa Distributors, Inc. and Rhea Pharmaceutical Corporation, another subsidiary company of the Mercury Group of Companies, Inc. Rhea became an in-house brand of Philusa and the manufacturing facilities became the manufacturing department of Philusa. This gave way to changing the company's name to PHILUSA CORPORATION.
1991
Bacolod and Ozamis branches were established on June 30 and October 28, 1991, respectively.
1992
Tacloban branch opened on September 4, 1992..
1994
General Santos opened on November 2, 1994.
1998
This year marked the integration of the marketing and sales divisions of Apollo Chemicals, Inc. to Philusa operation. Apollo, another subsidiary company of the Mercury Group of Companies, Inc., was a chemical trader and manufacturer of chemical-based household products. The manufacturing operation of both Philusa and Apollo were spinned off and a separate corporation was formed under the name of Telstar Manufacturing Corporation to focus on manufacturing. Thus, a re-organization was effected by Philusa to focus its business operation on marketing and distribution.

Aside from the motorized Professional Field Representatives (PFRs) and a fleet of delivery panels, Philusa also maintains merchandisers who are responsible for assuring a good merchandising display of Philusa products and who are also tasked with preparing periodic inventories to guide PFRs in recommending orders to the purchasers. Each group of merchandisers is being handled by a coordinator. Promo girls are also deployed in key accounts to do in-store promotions for some selected products.
All branches are fully equipped with computers, which enable them to process all transactions speedily, and for Management to have an easy access to statistics and sales information and reports. Through computerization, it also implements the "address system" in inventory management and control.
Philusa also extends credit line and credit terms to its customers subject to the evaluation of the Regional Sales Managers and Finance and Administrative Manager and approval of the President.
As a general rule, Philusa follows the First in - First out method of serving stocks and as far as storage is concerned, stocks are arranged and stored in accordance with BFAD rules.
